Currently reading...
"The Red Garden"
by Alice Hoffman.

"The Ensign Locker"
by John Zerr. I was given this book by my mother after my Great Uncle Clem died. The author is a friend of the family & he mentioned at the funeral that a character in the book is based on my Uncle Clem & his service in the Veitnam War. I love that he is honored in this way.

"Print Workshop"
by Christine Schmidt. I am super excited to announce that I will have a printing press in my classroom in the fall!  It was in college that I developed a love affair with printmaking.  You see, it is the most fabulous blend of photography, drawing, and painting. This book is written & illustrated by a wonderful artist & founder of the Yellow Owl Workshop. Take a look at her website here!

"Room: A Novel"
by Emma Donoghue. I chose this book from the Target bookshelf because the cover was adorned with awards (NYTimes bestseller, etc.) & it was 20% off. This compelling story is told from the perspective of a 5-yr-old. I read it cover to cover on the airplane.  It is sad, funny, & strange at times. I could not put it down.
"The Organized Teacher's Guide to Your First Year of Teaching"
by Steve Springer, Brandy Alexander, & Kimberly Becker. All the veteran teachers out there are probably giggling at this, but they too can probably recall the excitement they felt at the beginning of their teaching careers. I guess the teacher in me knows that preparation is key. I hope this was worth the purchase.

"Art/Work"
by Heather Bhandari & Jonathan Melber. A book about marketing yourself as an artist. It is supposed to teach me all of the things they didn't teach me in art school. We shall see...

"Lost at School"
by Ross Greene: This book attempts to show a new way of dealing with behavior within the classroom. Basically, Greene says that students who are struggling with their behavior in school are lacking certain social/emotional/developmental skills. He suggests that we, as teachers, work collaboratively with students to focus on developing these skills in order to diminish problem behaviors. I do like his approach, but the book is a tad redundant.

"Made for You and Me"
by Caitlyn Shetterly: This is a lovely tale of a couple on a similar journey.
