Nick declared Sundays to be "Outdoor Movie Night."
He cleared off the picnic table, set up the speakers, and lit the tiki lights. With only one lawn chair, we curled up to view the first of many alfresco flicks.
Midnight in Paris. (2011) Directed by Woody Allen. This movie affirms my thoughts about people who live in eras other than their own. I cannot imagine living in the golden age, amongst innovative writers & artists like Hemingway & Modigliani. But, as the movie points out, maybe we are in a golden age right now, we just don't know it.
Crazy Heart. (2009) Jeff Bridges plays a believable role as a dysfunctional musician. He is mostly sweating, smoking & drinking--to the point that you really can't believe that the nice young reporter, Maggie Gyllenhaal, is falling in love with him. I think his opening line, "A f*****g bowling alley", is a reference to The Big Lebowski (a must see flick). All in all, Nick liked it. I thought it was ok.
Bridesmaids. (2011) This movie is absolutely histarical! You must watch it. I would recommend that you gather all of your favorite gals and apply waterproof mascara because you will all be laughing so hard you will be crying. For serious.
Why We Fight. (2005) This is a documentary (of Nick's choosing) about war. I feel asleep several times. You can make your own opinions on this one. Just a little food for thought.
Love & Other Drugs.(2011)(with Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. I was excited about this movie because I loved Jake in Donnie Darko (2001), but unfortunately, he sold out in this one. After winning a game of Bottle Ball, I was given the opportunity to choose the feature film for this evening. This was a little to chick-flicky--even for my taste. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
Snatch, with Brad Pitt. I recommend enabling subtitles when watching this flick because the dialect is really hard to understand. Unfortunately we both fell asleep during the feature presentation--shut eye has not been the top priority around here. We shall revisit it in the near future.
